Musea Center for Intentional Creativity!

Musea Center for Intentional Creativity!

Musea Center for Intentional Creativity, Shop Talk
I am proud to announce that the DIVA Empowerment Studio is now a Musea Center for Intentional Creativity! As you are already aware, I am a Certified Color of Woman Teacher and Certified Intentional Creativity Coach. Through the years, my teacher Shiloh Sophia has been establishing the foundation of the Intentional Creativity Movement and curating the container and content for Intentional Creativity. As an extension of her work, she has streamlined certifications, which culminates in my being now known as an Intentional Creativity Teacher. This work is ever changing and growing. By extension, so am I. Part of this growth is having the DIVA Empowerment Studio certified as a Musea Center. Next Up: Liquitex Acrylic Inks

Next Up: Liquitex Acrylic Inks

Monday Mixed Media Magick
I started Monday Mixed Media Magick with four weeks of lessons on using Brusho Crystal Colour. This was because I had just discovered them and was excited to start playing with them in my art journal. So what better way for me to get to play then to dedicate our first lessons together using this medium? This week, we move on to a new medium: Liquitex Acrylic Inks. Acrylic inks are a fabulous medium to use in your art journal. One of the biggest draws is that they are permanent once dry. Using wet mediums on top of dry acrylic inks will not re-activate them and cause them to move. However, while wet you can squish and push them around on the page much like watercolors. They can be diluted…

Free Art Journaling Class!

Free Art Journaling Class!

Monday Mixed Media Magick
A couple of weeks ago I launched a free art journaling class here on the website called Monday Mixed Media Magick. Each Monday, I add a new lesson to the classroom to help you get past the blank page and start creating inspirational words and images in your art journal. (Actually, the lessons are posted in advance -- there are 4 lessons available now, which take you through March 9th.) Not only are these lessons designed to get you journaling, they also teach you the basics of mixed media. The lessons build upon themselves each week, teaching you a new way to use the medium we're working with. They also build on the mediums we have covered, adding the mediums together on the same page -- this is the essence…

Monday Mixed Media Magick, Product Reviews & Suggestions
Someone please come and take my wallet! LOL I've been on a (slight) binge buying new art products to play with in my heARTbook. It started with Arteza EverBlend Art Markers when the instructor of a class I'm in pulled out her alcohol markers. I pulled out my Copics, but they were 10 years old and a bit dry. So when I went to order re-inkers for the 60+ Copics I have, the cost was well over $300! Ummmm... No. That caused me to research some cheaper alcohol markers and Arteza happened to be having a great sale on their 60 count set. Well under $100 for 60 and they came with a great carrying case. So I bought those. Then I realized I needed skin tone colors, so I…

International Women’s Day — March 8th

International Women’s Day — March 8th

Art Challenges
Upping the bar... International Women's Day was established on March 8th back in 1913. Its purpose was to help nations worldwide end discrimination against women. Since then, countries around the world celebrate women on this day. This one, single day... I say women should be celebrated every day of the year! How is one day really going to bring full awareness to discrimination, gender-bias, inequality in the workplace, and all of the other harms held against women and end it all? If one day was going to work, I think after nearly 107 years it would have worked by now. But I digress... While I won't stand on a soapbox and spew forth the evils of gender discrimination, I will do my part in bringing awareness to discrimination against women.…

Do You Swatch?

Do You Swatch?

Shop Talk
I got some new metallic paints from Arteza -- a gift to myself for the new year. Today, I finally got around to swatching them... I try to make a swatch of all the new paints and markers I get. It's the best way to see the true color. I also swatch them on the paper that I'm most likely to use them on (140lb watercolor paper) so that I know how they will perform. I believe it's a "best practice" to swatch your new paints and markers. How else will you know what they really look like? The color bands on the tubes are nice, and it's nice to be able to see through the bottles if they're in a bottle. But you won't truly know what the color…

Here's face #2... I haven't painted it yet -- I am waiting on the new alcohol markers I purchased from Arteza. As soon as they arrive, I will finish her up and post the finished painting. 29 Faces Challenge -- Day 2

29 Faces Challenge

Art Challenges
Along with opening the Studio's physical location, working in my heARTbook and creating PDFs to share with the DIVA Empowerment Sisterhood, raising 2 teenage boys on my own, and just living life, I have also decided to join in on the 29 Faces Challenge... Basically the challenge is for you to create one face a day for the 29 days in February. I joined the challenge because I have a deep desire to paint portraits. I'm not necessarily interested in creating real life portraits; but I do want to be able to paint portraits that come out of the end of my paintbrush. I don't need a human or picture to model my portraits after -- I just want to paint portraits. Faces... Today is the first day of the…

Dust Here, There, and Everywhere

Dust Here, There, and Everywhere

General News
You all know that we move into our new space this Saturday, February 1st. You've seen the pictures and "heard" me gushing about the space and how excited I am. Well, it seems we also have a bit of dust building on the Internet too... Obviously you know about the website -- it's where this blog resides. And alot of you read my blog because you're either a member of the Facebook Group, the Facebook Page, or both. (However you come to read the blog, thank you for being one of my blog readers!) So that means we're on social media in addition to having a website presence (IG: @diva.empowerment). But did you know that we're on Patreon too? Many people avoid Facebook. Be it they're tired of the way…
